You don’t deserve it – Glen Johnson blast Chelsea star over contract demands
Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has warned Chelsea not to let Mason Mount hold them hostage over his wages demands but believes that he will be instrumental in the Blues’ bid to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United.
Mount currently has just 18 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge and it is understood that he is reluctant to commit his long-term future to the club.
It was previously reported that the 23-year-old rejected a new contract worth over £200,000-a-week and is demanding for a deal similar to that of Raheem Sterling who earns £300,000-a-week.
However, Johnson thinks the England international does not deserve that much money.
“I don’t think he’s at the point where he can expect £300,000 a week”, Johnson said.
“He’s a good player, and Chelsea won’t want to lose him, but you can’t be a pawn in someone else’s game. He doesn’t seem like the kind of boy who would quit his job if he didn’t get paid £300,000 every week, in my opinion.
“That kind of fella doesn’t appear to be him. I don’t think that’s accurate, so I think they’ll finally reach a compromise.
“If Chelsea decides to buy Declan Rice as well, they might need to keep Mount for tactical reasons.”
