Worst transfer decision ever – Chelsea fans regret selling Giroud for Lukaku after setting new France record
On Sunday, December 5, 2022, Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time goalscorer with 52 goals, surpassing Thierry Henry’s tally of 51.
The 36-year-old scored the opening goal to France’s 3-1 win over Poland, helping Les Bleus proceed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar.
While the former Chelsea striker stepped up for his country from time to time, Romelu Lukaku dropped a disheartening performance in Belgium’s shock exit from the tournament.
The 29-year-old has a tournament to forget as he made the headlines for the wrong reasons after missing clear chances in Belgium’s 0-0 draw against Croatia consequently knocking them out of the 2022 World Cup.
Some Chelsea fans have then taken to social media to slam the club’s transfer dealing over the past few years which included letting the Frenchman go for next to nothing, while signing Lukaku for €100 million.
Once again Tuchel selling Giroud for Lukaku would never make sense to me!!!

We let Giroud go and picked up Lukaku’s baggage. No wonder why we have struggled with team building and finding the right players even after having our beloved ROMAN as our owner.

Chelsea actually ditched Giroud for Lukaku. The gods of football will never forgive us

We sold Giroud for 1M and bought Lukaku for 100M in the same window ☠️

Giroud becomes the highest scorer for France above Henry , Totally deserved down to earth, not celebrated , so damn underated gem of a player 👌 I still can’t believe how #CFC sold him for a big mouth like Lukaku

Tuchel shipped out Giroud and spent 100million on Lukaku btw
— SK (@EskayCF) December 4, 2022
Once again, what sane club allows Giroud to go for free just to get a £90m sweaty head Lukaku ?? So crazy

Still cant believe @ChelseaFC sold Giroud to make room for Lukaku
Tuchel should never come close to chelsea ever again

We really got rid of Giroud to spend £100m on Lukaku ffs

Selling olivier giroud for lukaku was one of the worst transfer decision Chelsea have ever made
— Nuelo.eth (@EmmanuelChibugo) December 4, 2022
What was chelsea thinking to let go of a top striker like Giroud, now a record goal scorer for France. Lukaku and Auba ain’t anything really better than this top man. Giroud top player to play this football game. Respect 🙌🏾 #WorldcupQatar2022
