“This is my club” – Chelsea youth product set to be rewarded for patience with more starts to come
Trevoh Chalobah came on as a sub last night to play his first minutes for Chelsea since August.
In that time several clubs made their interest in signing him permanently or on loan very clear, but Chelsea and Chalobah turned them all down.
He’s clearly keen to keep pushing for first team minutes, and in his quotes picked up by the Evening Standard, he made that very clear.:
“I am at Chelsea, this is my club. Every time I get the chance I want to show the manager that I am good enough to play. Any chance I get I need to do my best and let the manager decide. [Graham Potter] said I have been training well so take it into the game. He knew I was ready and what I could do.”
That chance will come along now. The man he replaced last night – Wesley Fofana – looks to have an injury which will keep him on the side-lines for some time, and on last night’s evidence Chalobah looks to have jumped Cesar Azpilicueta in the queue for minutes.
He may have looked crazy when he was turning down tempting offers from Serie A and beyond a few weeks ago, but now his reasoning becomes clear. It’s only taken one injury to thrust him back into the first team picture.
