Revealed: Why Raheem Sterling did not play for England vs Senegal in the World Cup
Before their World Cup last 16-tie against Senegal on Sunday, the FA announced that Raheem Sterling will not be available for selection.
It was reported that the 27-year-old had to travel back to England to deal with family issues and won’t be available for clash against African Champions.
Southgate explained the situation, saying: “He’s dealing with a family matter so I’ve had time with him this morning but I’ve now had to pass that onto other people to deal with that.
“He’s going to go and deal with that matter then we’ll have to deal with that matter then we’ll have to take it from there.”
Speaking after the Senegal match Sterling’s team-mate Declan Rice said: “I saw him at breakfast this morning then the manager said he had the difficulties at home so we’ve all sent him a message.”
According to latest report, while the Englishman was away in Qatar, it is claimed that his home in England robbed while family were in the house on Saturday night.
Raheem Sterling’s home was raided by armed invaders on Saturday, while his partner and young children were in the house.
Raheem’s hugely committed to England but wanted to get home, supported by Southgate, the FA and all teammates.
