“I will never turn down Chelsea’s offer” – £60M Kante replacement admits ‘dream’ to play for the Blues
Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo has admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to one day reunite with Graham Potter at Chelsea.
Potter took charge of his first game as new Chelsea boss in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg, after three years in charge at the AMEX stadium.
His appointment at Stamford Bridge to replace Thomas Tuchel, came just one week after the transfer window closed.
As a result, we will be unable to raid his former side anytime soon as he looks to shape the Blues’ squad with his own recruits.
Caicedo, 20, worked with Potter at Brighton for 18 months and his stock was beginning to rise with Chelsea and Manchester United reportedly tracking the midfielder this summer.
But whilst the Ecuadorian star admits his sadness at Potter’s exit, he is not ruling out a reunion with his former boss in the future.
“It made me very sad now that he [Potter] left for Chelsea, because he helped me a lot and I wanted to continue having him as a manager, but that’s football,” Caicedo told Argentine newspaper Olé.
“You never know, today you can be here and tomorrow somewhere else, that’s the job of a footballer and a coach.
“At Brighton he worked very well and people love him very much. I’m very happy for him and for the great opportunity that was presented to him.”
Caicedo continued: “Right now I’m very focused on Brighton and the World Cup. I want to have a great World Cup and then we’ll see what happens.
“I think they are one of the best teams in the world and nobody would turn down an offer from Chelsea or any other club like that. It’d be a dream to be in the best teams in the world and succeed there.”
Caicedo was reportedly among the names mooted by Manchester United chiefs this summer.
The reports suggested United were ready to make a move for the combative midfielder but despite conceding he would have been interested in a move to Old Trafford, there was no formal approach for him.
“I saw rumours and things like that, but I was working on my team,” Caicedo said.
“I didn’t want anything to take me away from my work, I let my agent handle everything. I was very calm, focused only on Brighton and I didn’t know if there were other proposals or not.
“I was just working on my team to play good games. If there was any proposal, I would have thought about it a lot, but I am very happy here at Brighton and doing very well. I’m already adapted to the team.”
