Graham Potter explains the reason behind Aubameyang’s sensational form

Graham Potter has resisted taking any credit for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s blazing Chelsea form and believes the team’s new No. 9 still has more to offer as he nears peak fitness.

The dramatic 12-month period for the 33-year-old began with his abrupt departure from Arsenal and transfer to Barcelona on the final day of the January transfer window.

Due to the addition of Robert Lewandowski, Aubameyang was deemed surplus to needs barely six months after his debut, despite the fact that his goals had helped the Catalan giants qualify for the Champions League.

During the final hours of the summer transfer window, Aubameyang’s return to the Premier League and to London was made official. He was thrilled to reunite with Thomas Tuchel, his former coach at Borussia Dortmund.

The pair’s reunion was brief, however, since the German had been brutally fired at the beginning of September and had been replaced by Potter, who had engineered an almost immediate improvement in results and performances.

Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 victory over AC Milan at San Siro and took control of their Champions League group with two games remaining. Aubameyang scored for the third game in a row.

Potter responded, “No, we’ve not done anything special; it’s all down to him,” when asked if he could claim any credit for Aubameyang’s immediate impact.

‘He has been building his fitness up. We spoke before that he came from a difficult summer so it’s been a case of building up his match minutes up and the more he gets the stronger he gets, and the more we understand him the more he understands us.

‘Everyone knows his quality and it’s great for him. He looks like he is enjoying his football and scoring goals is important.’

Aubameyang had a memorable evening because he had started his career at Milan but had fallen short with the Serie A giants before starting to show signs of growth with Saint-Etienne.

‘Big dream achieved!!’ Aubameyang wrote on Instagram. ‘I used to come to this stadium to see my brothers playing and never had the chance to play at San siro myself, now it’s done

‘Another great team performance come on Chelsea.’
