Forget Ronaldo – Chelsea told to sign world-class striker who needs big move

Chelsea have been told to dump the pursue of Cristiano Ronaldo and go for England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane instead.

The Blues co-owner Todd Boehly is a huge fan of Ronaldo and is believed to be keen on signing the Portuguese star in the summer but was ruled against by former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 37-year-old is now free agent after he was released by Manchester United and he has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, who previously backed Chelsea to swoop the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has made a U-turn and no longer wants to see the Portuguese star at Stamford Bridge – but would prefer for the Blues to move for Kane.

Chelsea have been encouraged to go for Harry Kane instead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told Grosvenor Casinos: “I would have done Ronaldo for Chelsea in the summer, for one year, but obviously now I think the priorities are bigger in the summer.

“I would try to persuade Kane to come. That would be a very controversial move, but surely he’s going to want to win things. Surely he knows he’s not going to win with Spurs.

“Surely, he’s not enjoying the way he is playing at the moment and where he’s playing. I know they’re all doing the shift for the team, but the majority of the time, when they don’t have the ball, he’s 10 meters away from his own box.

“You know, so surely he’s not going to want to be playing like that for the next two or three years.

“Surely he would want to be with the club that is going to go for it and is going to try to win trophies or are going to be closer to winning the trophies, so for me, they should go for him.”
