Chelsea want £50m Premier League star to replace Kante at Stamford Bridge
Reports have claimed that Chelsea view the signing of Moises Caicedo as a long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante.
According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are considering launching a bid to sign the 21-year-old this month.
The Blues have been hot in the market to sign a midfielder this month, as they continue the heavy spending started by Todd Boehly last summer.
They pushed to secure the acquisition of Enzo Fernandez in the early days of the January transfer window.
It was reported that they were extremely close to securing a deal, however later claims suggested they fell way short of paying the release clause desired by Benfica to let him go.
So far this month, the Blues have added David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Andrey Santos, whilst not shying away from big-name acquisitions either.
Chelsea want Caicedo to replace Kante
They confirmed a deal for Joao Felix to join the club until the end of the season, whilst yesterday they announced the signing of Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Now, it is widely reported that they are set to attempt to add Caicedo to their ranks.
The Daily Mail have claimed the thinking behind the signing is to do with looking to replace Kante in the future.
The Frenchman hasn’t played since August this season, and currently has a contract which expires at the end of the campaign.
Recent reports have claimed that he is expected to resign a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge, in different circumstances to fellow midfielder Jorginho.
However, his recent injury record suggests he will be unable to play as big a role as he has in the past, and his impact may still need replacing as soon as possible.
Caicedo has been extremely impressive this season, after being handed his debut by Graham Potter at Brighton last season. The manager has previously described him as ‘fantastic’.
