Chelsea waiting for Wesley Fofana scan results after being seen on crutches
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has confirmed that the Blues will have to wait for the results of a scan to determine the severity of the injury suffered by Wesley Fofana on Wednesday night.
Fofana scored the opening goal of the 3-0 win but had to be withdrawn towards the end of the first half. The young Frenchman, who missed most of the 2021/22 season with former club Leicester because of a freak broken leg, was seen leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches.
“We need to scan [on Thursday] and fingers crossed,” Potter explained afterwards.
“I wouldn’t want to speculate on it now. But we’re concerned and we just need to wait and get it scanned and hope for the best.
“These things happen. He’s a young guy, he’s a strong guy, we’ll help him and support him. At the moment there’s not too much to report. Fingers crossed and we’re hoping for the best.”
Chelsea spent weeks hammering out a £75m transfer with Leicester during the summer, having turned their attention to the Frenchman after fellow countryman Jules Kounde opted to join a financially troubled Barcelona instead.
The Milan game was Fofana’s second start under Potter, who has only been in charge for three games since replacing Thomas Tuchel last month.

Potter has experimented with several options at the back since starting in the job, with Thiago Silva the only constant and differing systems also making use of Cesar Azpilicueta and Kalidou Kouliably.
