Chelsea are reportedly considering making a launching a January bid for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.
The Sunday World reported that Chelsea are not looking for a ‘quick-fix solutions’ to their problems, but with the vision for the future focused on specific targets.
The report claimed that Graham Potter is eyeing players with long-term potential as the Englishman keen on rebuilding his squad and Rice is seen a key man in that operation.
The 23-year-old has been a long-term target for the Blues and has openly admitted he’s a fan of Chelsea.
Under the charge of former boss Frank Lampard, Chelsea attempted to sign the England international but a deal failed to materialize and with the change of ownership and management at Stamford Bridge, he remains a key target for the Blues.
His current contract with the Hammers run until 2024, Rice has been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool in recent months, Graham Potter’s side are believed to be ahead in the race to land his services.
West Ham have been clear that they are not ready to sell their captain, but Rice fuelled rumours over his future with comments made in an England press conference on Thursday.
“I’ve been playing consistently well for the club and I want to keep pushing,” said Rice.
“I see my friends here who are playing Champions League football, winning the trophies.
“You only get one career and at the end of your career you want to look back at what you’ve won and the biggest games you’ve played in.”
