€60m Price Tag Won’t Be Enough to Convince Chelsea to Sign Jackson’s Replacement

Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim appears to be on the verge of a move to Manchester United, sparking fresh speculation regarding Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres. German journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that there’s an “agreement” allowing Gyokeres to leave next summer for a fee between €60-70m, with Chelsea among the clubs reportedly interested.

However, at this moment, it seems unlikely that Gyokeres will be heading to Chelsea, and it’s not just because Amorim, who has worked closely with the striker, is potentially moving to the Premier League. The main reason is Chelsea’s evolving situation over the past six months.

Gyokeres continues to shine in the Primeira Liga, impressing both domestically and in European competitions. His physicality and goal-scoring prowess have made him stand out, but these are qualities he showcased a year ago, and Chelsea had reservations back then about whether he could replicate his form at a higher level.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has seen the emergence of Nicolas Jackson, whose performances keep improving. Jackson’s growth has reinforced the club’s decision to place its trust in him rather than pursue a high-profile striker like Gyokeres.

Given that Chelsea was already hesitant to sign Gyokeres in the summer, it seems unlikely that the club would reconsider now after another strong run of performances from Jackson. While Gyokeres might soon make his mark in the Premier League, it’s unlikely to be with Chelsea, especially considering that even Christopher Nkunku, another highly regarded forward, is struggling to get minutes in the first team.

Unless something dramatic changes, Gyokeres’ future likely lies elsewhere in the Premier League, but Chelsea doesn’t appear to be his next destination.
