With just two days remaining until the January transfer window opens, a fresh rumour has emerged, coming from a reliable source. Santi Aouna of Footmercato reports that Chelsea have approached Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) regarding a potential move for out-of-favor striker Randal Kolo Muani.
According to Aouna, the France international is reportedly dissatisfied with his lack of playing time at PSG, which could prompt him to seek a new challenge. Chelsea are said to be one of several clubs expressing interest in signing Kolo Muani, with Juventus, Monaco, Manchester United, and AC Milan also reportedly in the race for his signature.
Chelsea were previously linked with the striker before his move to PSG, and the same sporting directors who made those connections are still in place at the club.
Chelsea’s striker situation remains somewhat unclear. Nicolas Jackson has been performing well and has already established himself as one of the league’s top forwards, with significant potential for further growth. This likely rules out any move for a high-profile striker who would play ahead of him. However, Jackson has shown signs of slowing down in recent matches, and it’s evident that Chelsea could benefit from a reliable backup, more trusted than Marc Guiu. Could Kolo Muani be that backup? Would he be content playing a secondary role at Chelsea? And is he even good enough for that role? His time at PSG hasn’t garnered him much praise or popularity.
If the deal is a loan, it’s a possibility. But a permanent transfer seems less likely, as Chelsea are reportedly only looking to sign players who represent a clear upgrade over what they currently have.
